Being a management consultant puts you in the strange position of giving advice to people who should know more about their problems than you do. Yet, the invaluable perspective that the “outsider” brings is often necessary given that the best ideas are often buried right under the surface. These include opportunities to cross-sell existing products, leverage existing infrastructure and people, and use existing strategies and systems to gain market share, increase sales, and expand the bottom line. This is in direct contrast to investing potentially millions (or in some cases, billions) of dollars trying to create new products or services.
The sooner that companies master the art of making the most of the products and services that they do have, the farther they will be in the markets they already compete in.
DaGreatGuru is the screenname of an anonymous management consultant and writer based in the Chicago area. He currently works for a prestigious, but niche, management consulting firm, specializing in sales, marketing, and operations. Even though there is no overlap between the clients that he services in his full time job and the suggestions that he espouses through a blog on the internet, corporate regulations force him to remain anonymous in order to protect client confidentiality and avoid potential conflicts of interest.
As for his email, if enough people request it, I can set up a designated email to correspond with readers. =)
